Living Systems

 الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ

[Al-Quran, Surah al-Mulk 67:2] The One Who created death and life that He may test you, which of you (is) best (in) deed. And He (is) the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.  

The living world comprises of a combination of Water and Earth. Water flowing through the entire body, plant or animal, is essential for the proper functioning of the living systems.

Made from Water

وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا وَلَئِن قُلْتَ إِنَّكُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ مِن بَعْدِ الْمَوْتِ لَيَقُولَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

[Al-Quran, Hud 11:7] And He (is) the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and His throne has been upon the water that He might test [you] which of you (is) best (in) deed. But if you say, "Indeed, you (will be) resurrected after [the] death," surely would say those who disbelieved, "This is not but a magic clear."

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ 

[Al-Quran, al-Anbiya 21:30] Do not see those who disbelieved that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We parted them and We made from [the] water every living thing? Then will not they believe? 

In Q21:30 the word جَعَلْنَا is used. This implies that water is not the material used for creation (خَلَق), but rather it is being used to make living systems. The Bible mentions Living Water in  Jeremiah 2:13 and 17:13, Zechariah 14:8 and John 4:10.

Water - The Forgotten Matrix of Life

Many plants and animals consist predominantly of water. For instance, some jellyfishes are >99% water by weight (Jankowski, 2000). Together, their "solids" - including bioorganic molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, etc. - constitute no more than a fraction of a percent of their living mass. 

Created from Earth

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ إِذَا أَنتُم بَشَرٌ تَنتَشِرُونَ

[Al-Quran, ar-Rum 30:20] And among His Signs (is) that He created you from dust then behold! You (are) human beings dispersing.

Ratio of Water & Earth in the Human Body

Like all other living creatures, the amount of Earth that we are made of is a fraction of the amount of water that binds it together and enables us to live.

By percent of mass, human adults are 50%-70% water.

The molecular ratio of earth to water in humans is for 1 molecule of the Earth there are almost 99 molecules of Water!

In fact, the DNA molecule itself is surrounded with water and would not be able to function in the absence of water.

Scientists are just beginning to discover the amazing states, properties and functions of water.

Without water, life, as we know it, cannot exist!  

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَاءٍ مَّعِينٍ

[Al-Quran, Surah al-Mulk 67:30] Say, "Have you seen, if becomes your water sunken, then who could bring you water welling-up?"
